When Bushbalm was founded, we knew the products available for post-hair removal were outdated and lacked innovation. With our innovative line designed for professionals in the waxing industry, we've proven you can make high quality, safe products for concerns like ingrown hairs, hyperpigmentation, and more.
Insights provided by David Gaylord, Co-Founder + CEO
Key business initiatives for 2025?
In 2025, we will be expanding our business model rapidly due to our recent Premium Hard Wax launch into the market. This product is only available through service at professional waxing salons and is taking the market by storm. In 2025, we will look to pass over 10,000 salons carrying the line by expanding our digital presence.
What are you most proud of having accomplished?
I'm most proud of the professional community we've built with Bushbalm pros. To date, we have over 35,000 followers on our dedicated @bushbalmpros Instagram account. The education and community is motivating us to always strive to make new and innovative products.
What has been the biggest surprise?
Our biggest surprise has been the success of our scent launches in 2024. Our customer base purchased and sold out of these lines in only a few weeks. From Watermelon Sugar to Pumpkin Spice, we've seen a positive trend in consumers wanting scented bikini and bodycare.
What fuels your competitive advantage?
Without a doubt, our focus and dedication to the professional channel. Waxing salons have not been given the credit and love they deserve. Many of our clients are entrepreneurs themselves, and we want to be here for them on their journey.
Insight on the future of the beauty industry.
If you are starting a brand today, I'd highly recommend looking at the industry from a different light. The previous go-to-market strategies will not be the strategies of the future. We deviated and have been rewarded drastically. The balance of advice with the ability to be nimble and test and learn will win out.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Always focus on the customer and the problem you are solving. It's easy to think about your needs and what you see, but often the customer will prove you wrong.
What is the best mistake you've ever made and what did you learn?
In the early days I focused far too much on adjusting the business, when I should have focused on driving traffic. Always know what metrics matter and focus on them at the time.
What advice would you give to someone contemplating launching a beauty brand?
Be very careful to look at the market you are entering. You need to find a perfect balance of size and competition. Finding this sweet spot can enable you to grow quickly and without much in your way.
If you could change one thing in the beauty industry what would it be?
I'd love to see more people join the beauty industry as outsiders and changemakers. Continuing to add diversity of thought to an already dynamic industry is bound to lead to further growth. It's been quite remarkable to watch new employees experience the beauty industry for the first time. Combining industry experts with those from other business experiences has truly helped take Bushbalm to a new level.
